Scores of people are feared dead in an explosion at the Kano Central Mosque on Friday.
The bomb blast, which occurred around 2pm while the Jumat service was going on, was heard in most parts of the city.
An eyewitness, Sani Kabara, who spoke to The PUNCH, said the prayer session was brought to a halt as thousands of worshippers scampered for safety and security men were seen trying to control the situation with little success.
The central mosque is behind the Emir’s palace. The Emir, Mallam Sanusi, was out of the country when the incident occcurred but one of his sons narrowly escaped the blast, according to sources.
There were also gunshots, which eyewitnesses said were fired at people, which made the situation more chaotic as people ran for safety.
Spokesman for the Joint Task Force, Capt Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed the blast.
